Hi friends, family, and fellow scouts,
My name is Allison Huang, I’m a Life Scout in Alameda’s Troop 7, and I’m currently a sophomore at Head Royce School. As a part of working towards my Eagle Rank, I’m hoping to gather some support for my Eagle Project.
I am working with a small nonprofit farm in Petaluma called Mustang Acres, whose vision is to advance equity and social justice for persons with disabilities through participation in agriculture. Mustang Acres aims to serve persons with disabilities, a traditionally underserved community, by providing opportunities for engagement, socialization and vocational skills training using farm-based activities. Through work in nature and increasing accessibility to agriculture for adults with developmental disabilities while teaching eco-friendly practices and basic life skills, Mustang Acres helps to promote community-building, mental and physical health, employability, and sensory regulation for this population.
My project is to build raised garden beds for Mustang Acres farm, which would allow easier access for the participants to grow produce for themselves and the community. Each of the 8 beds would be raised 2 feet above the ground, be 3 x 8 feet, and needs to be filled with soil and compost. This project will cost around $2500. Any kind of financial contribution to my project would be greatly appreciated. All funds raised would go toward my project, and any extra would go to Mustang Acres.
“We have all been touched by disabilities and are committed to inclusivity for the neurodiverse population in agriculture.”
