My daughter and I are inseparable. We have our own language, a mix of sign and words. She is incredible, but her journey in her short life has been a roller coaster.

Even in the womb, she was a fighter. She made it into this world and has continued to fight valiantly. She has autism and other medical conditions that have been scary and life-threatening at times. She has never stopped fighting. She can read and play melodies on the guitar. She loves to paint and color—even the walls. She'll crack eggs and help cook. Cleanup is not always her strong suit, but with a cape, she becomes Super Munchkin and anything is possible!

She is my heart and soul, and my reason for being on this planet. She makes the world a better place.

Her father and I have been locked in a custody dispute for five years, and we are finally going to have a permanent custody hearing.

I won't disclose details here about the case or make excuses why she should be with me. That's for my lawyer to do and the judge to decide. I can say she needs both sides of us to co-parent and be present in her life.
