On June 18, Luciana Lopresti was detained and placed in deportation proceedings, despite having valid permanent residency and having lived legally in the U.S. since she was only 5 years old.

Over 10 years ago, during her youth, she made a mistake. She accepted probation as part of her sentence, fulfilled her obligations, changed her environment, and rebuilt her life. Since then, she has lived a life of integrity and responsibility, working hard, paying her taxes, and caring for her father, who in the recent years underwent open-heart surgery and relies on her for support.

At 30 years old, she had just found emotional stability alongside her fiancé, who proposed to her on June 17, her birthday. But their happiness was shattered the very next day, June 18, when Luciana was detained with the intention of deporting her.

Now, Luciana needs our help. She has been detained since June 18, denied bond, and is facing high legal fees to fight her case. Her lawyers estimate a two-year legal process to appeal and fight for her right to remain in the only home she’s ever known.

El 18 de junio, Luciana Lopresti fue detenida e iniciaron su proceso de deportación, a pesar de tener su residencia permanente vigente y haber vivido legalmente en EE.UU. desde los 5 años.

Hace más de 10 años, en su juventud, cometió un error. Optó por la libertad condicional (probation) como la forma correcta de cumplir su sentencia, completó su condena, cambió su círculo de amistades y reconstruyó su vida. Desde entonces, ha llevado una vida de trabajo, responsabilidad y conducta intachable, cumpliendo con sus impuestos y cuidando a su padre, quien recientemente tuvo una cirugía a corazón abierto y depende de sus cuidados.

A sus 30 años, había encontrado la estabilidad emocional junto a su prometido, quien le pidió matrimonio el 17 de junio, el día de su cumpleaños. Pero esa felicidad se apagó al día siguiente, el 18 de junio, cuando fue detenida con intenciones de deportarla.

Hoy, Luciana necesita nuestra ayuda. Lleva detenida desde el 18 de junio, le negaron la fianza, y enfrenta altos costos legales para luchar por su caso. Los abogados estiman un proceso de dos años para poder revertir esta situación y pelear por su derecho de quedarse en el único hogar que ha conocido.
