My name is Kimberly Carney and my husband David has been diagnosed with ALS, also known as Lou Gehrig's disease. For those of you not familiar, this is a devastating, fatal disease with no cure and essentially no real treatment options. Dave was diagnosed formally back in January, but has been struggling with symptoms for about the last three and a half years.

Unfortunately, he is not able to apply for disability because he was denied several years ago after a work injury, and he has not been able to work since then. Thus, he has not worked enough quarters to be able to apply again. We are trying to raise money so that he can get a scooter so that he can go outside and play with our dogs and go for walks with me and our grandchildren. We also need a ramp installed, and he needs a new recliner/lift chair. If I am able to get a chair or scooter, I need some kind of lift put on the truck to assist with that. I've also had to lease a new bed for him, and there's some other equipment that he's going to need.

Unfortunately, insurance does not cover all of this. In fact, they will only cover one wheelchair, and I'm going to need something that I can lift to transport him as well as something that he can maneuver around the house with. We also have a huge deductible and a 20% coinsurance to pay, and have thousands of dollars in medical bills that we still owe. This is not something that I am proud to do. Asking for help is very difficult for us. But any help would be much appreciated. Any money that we receive will go to aiding in his care, to make the rest of his remaining life as joyful as possible. Thank you for your consideration.
