My name is Eitan Harod and I'm starting this campaign to help Oren, an injured soldier, I had the privilege to meet.
It's important to mention, I know there is no shortage of good causes out there and that all of us have given and helped already but I hope we can come together and help this individual.
All the money raised goes directly to Oren's bank account, no commissions or fees are lost. I will share exact pictures of funds being sent to and received by Oren. If you have ANY questions about ANY detail, please reach out to me directly.
Oren Trabelsi (Oren Gilad Ben Hanna)
Oren was injured in operation Tzuk Eitan in July 2014. He and four of his platoon friends were stationed in Kibbutz Beeri waiting to be called into Gaza. Some kind people offered them a free haircut. Well-meaning people took pictures and uploaded them to social media. Hamas operatives saw those pictures in real time and sent a direct mortar to their location, killing all four of Oren's friends. He is the only one who survived. This event left Oren with severe post trauma, he couldn't sleep or function. His home fell apart, his wife developed an addiction to drugs, and they had to divorce. Oren has been raising his kids alone ever since.
As a result of the post trauma Oren developed an illness called Peripheral Vascular Disease (PVD), which slowly became more and more serious. Two years ago, he had to have two fingers amputated. Six months ago, they had to amputate his left leg. They might need to amputate his right leg as well.
Oren is still struggling with his PTSD every night.
Eighteen months ago, Oren met his angel, Meirav, who's been with him through this entire process including five straight months in the hospital while all their kids were at home taking care of themselves to the best of their abilities.
Unfortunately, Oren is in constant pain and is not being recognized by the Ministry of Defense as an amputee , so the help they are getting is very minimal and doesn't cover their monthly expenses.
Together, from previous marriages, Meirav and Oren have five kids. Meirav has no option but to be a full-time care giver to Oren (not recognized by the state) who is becoming less and less independent, to manage his pain he takes opioids, affecting his balance. He falls a lot and can barely leave the house.
After understanding the unfathomable realty of their day-to-day life, lack of income, relentless pain and constant worries of how to afford basic things like food or clothes, I asked Meirav: What is your wish list of things you want? Both Meirav and Oren are very modest and it took me a while to get it out from them.
Here is her list:
1.Help with the monthly bills.
2. To get a driver's license so she can drive the kids and Oren
3.School supplies for their kids for this upcoming year
4.Paint the apartment to make it homier.
5.Replace all the Mezuzot in the home.
6.To be able to celebrate her youngest son's Bar Mitzvah, coming up in five months.
7. Since they are stuck at home for so long, her kids have a dream of going on vacation to Eilat for a week.
Cost breakdown:
1.Monthly rent & bills- 10,000 NIS /month ($2,685x12=$32,220) - see full breakdown below.
2. Driver's license for Meirav - 6,000 NIS ($1,580)
3.School supplies - 5,000 NIS ($1,320)
4.Painting - 5000 NIS ($1,320)
5.Mezuzuot - 3000 NIS ($800)
6. Bar Mitzvah - 70,000 NIS ($18,795)
7. Vacation - 5 nights in Eilat - 25,000 NIS ($6600)
Monthly Expenses breakdown:
Rent - 6000 NIS
Arnona (Property tax) - 1400 NIS
Electrical Bill - 1200 NIS
Gas - 200 NIS
Food - 5000 NIS
Clothes, shoes and other incidentals - 6200 NIS
*Total monthly expenses are 20,000 NIS per month, I am asking for only the rent and bills (10,000 NIS) for 12 months.
They have some income from the state of Israel but it doesn't even cover the bare minimum. Let's give them peace of mind for one year at least!
$62,635 will ensure that they are able to make ends meet for one year. if we can get to $100,000 it would be incredible.
To date I have contributed over $6,000 of my own and G-d willing will continue to support them monthly.
Since Oren was injured in the operation in 2014 he is essentially "old news" and unfortunately feels abandoned. Let's show him that is not the case!
I have other brave soldiers I am working with from the current war in Gaza but I chose to start with Oren as he's situation seems to me the most urgent.
Any amount you'll give will be helpful and much appreciated by Oren and his family. Let's make it happen for them!
Am Israel Chai!
Project Update - 9/5/2024
Back to school supply- Done!
Replace Mezuzot - Done!
Rest of the funds collected thus far are being transferred to Oren's bank account.
Unfortunately, Oren's Ex-wife was killed last week by her new partner and the kids are heart broken. They had to spend more money on funeral arrangement and Shiva. Rest of the money per Oren and Meirav request will go to cover the monthly expenses for rent and bills as they are falling behind.
Let's bring Oren light in his time of darkness!
