We, as members of the Colorado Springs community, urgently seek your support for Hayam El Gamal and her five children—ages 18, 16, 9, and 5-year-old twins—who have been detained at the South Texas Family Residential Center in Dilley, Texas, since early June 2025. Eight months of separation from home and loved ones have passed, despite their full cooperation with authorities.
This fundraiser’s primary purpose is straightforward: your contributions will demonstrate to the immigration judge that the family has tangible community assets, strong local connections, and a reliable support network—directly addressing and countering any claim of flight risk to strengthen their release.
Hayam is a devoted mother enduring the unimaginable: her twins, who should be starting kindergarten, face confinement instead of childhood discovery. Her eldest daughter, Habiba—a gifted student with college scholarships in reach—has been separated from the family just days ago, with restricted visitation and denied essential religious accommodations. The Department of Homeland Security has accused the two oldest children of security threats based solely on their peaceful participation in a Quran memorization competition at our local masjid.
These innocent children have lost precious time to detention without evidence of wrongdoing. They belong to our community, and we refuse to remain silent.
For those witnessing the tragic shootings by federal immigration agents in Minnesota—events that have sparked outrage, memorials, and demands for accountability—this family’s plight reflects the same troubling overreach. Likewise, for those following or participating in the ongoing protests at Dilley—where detained families and children chant for freedom amid reports of harsh conditions—this is immediate and personal. It concerns people we know, in a facility where solidarity rising against prolonged family suffering.
We have prepared a home for the family and secured transportation to support their immigration proceedings outside detention. Donations will fund full bond efforts, essential needs, and reintegration resources, while building the court’s confidence in their community ties. Your contributions will not find legal fees.
Every gift—however modest—advances justice, mercy, and dignity for this family. Consider the toll on innocent children and a loving mother. Your support can bring them home.
Thank you for standing with us. Together, we uphold compassion and fairness.
