Bring Hair to Galiwin'ku's Yolngu people (Elcho Island,NT)

Donation protected
In 2024 - 2 of us from Melbourne did a self funded trip to Galiwinku, Northern Terriory, a remote Island in East Arnhemalnd. We boarded two flights to get there, we did 2 weeks of hair colouring in bright rainbow colours, voluntarily in community for the Yolngu people.
It was a total honour and joy to be there and we acknowledge and pay our respects to the original owners of the land, past present and emerging.

This year, on Good Friday we are flying back to Galiwin'ku via Darwin with Jetstar and Air North ( on a 20 seater plane).
This time there is 4 of us going, which means more hairdressers available to help do hair for First Nations community.

We received enough funding for 3 of us ( with accommodation and flight expenses), so one of us still needs the flights covered to be able to forfeit the time off throughout easter and help to do 1 week of hair colouring on the island.
The joy this brings the Yolngu people is priceless, they absolutely loved having the choice of hair colour and feeling pampered and having access to hair coloring, freedom of expression and a service that is not available on Elcho Island.

Every donation to the value of $20 will put you in the draw to win the very first wig that I ever painted, in 2018 ( 7 years ago ) it was originally auctioned for a charity to raise money for cancer research in San Antonio , Texas , USA , a Melbourne drag queen Leasa Mann bought it, and has recently donated it back with the intention that it goes towards helping an Indigenous community, so we are using it as an initiativeand insentive for people to donate to this fundraiser.

If you dont wish to receive the wig if you win, you can. contribute it back and it will be sold in a silent auction. All proceeds above $2,565 of this fundraising page will be donated to the Galiwin'ku Women's Space - a grassroots Yolngu led organisation supporting women and children facing Domestic and Family Violence by providing a safe place and crisis accommodation on Elcho Island , Galiwin'ku.

There is a strong pride family in Galiwin'ku , aswell as Sistagirls and Brothaboys (trans people in community) and the Galiwinku Women's Space runs a pride night weekly as a safe space. I cant wait to do everyones hair and be back in community, it's an honour to be there, and we love providing hair colouring for the people.

You can see some of the hairstyles we did last time via this link to a video , which also showcases the wig available to win via donations-

$20-= 1 chance
$40= 2 chances
$60 = 3 chances
$80 = 4 chances
$100= 5 chances etc etc and up from there,

Please inbox me on Facebook / instagram - Unicorn Manes By Mykey
so I can place your entries in the draw to win, and thanks so much for your support in helping make it possible to bring 4 hairdressers, since we are there 6 days this time instead of 14 , it will allow us to get through more peoples hair in the limited time we have.
