23 year-old Aliza Shor ( Aliza Chana Chaya bas Sheindel Sarah ) is a proud Bais Yaakov girl, a pre-dental student, and a talented artist who once lit up every room with her energy, her passion, and her dreams.
Then everything changed.

Liza was diagnosed with leukemia and bravely underwent a life-saving bone marrow transplant. But afterward, she developed the HHV6 virus, which spread to her brain and caused encephalitis. Now, she’s facing a traumatic brain injury that has left her with extreme short-term memory loss, fear, and deep confusion. She is confined to a hospital bed, unable to care for herself, or walk- in a fight for her life.

But Liza is still Liza.

Despite her pain, her disorientation, and the limitations placed on her body, her soul hasn’t changed. She’s still funny, still smart, still sharp in the most beautiful ways. She gives the most heartfelt compliments, makes you feel like the most important person in the room, and somehow continues to be the kind of person who inspires everyone around her.

We met Liza while doing an overnight hospital shift. We had never met her before, but within minutes, we felt like we had known her forever. Instant best friends. She was the one cheering us up. In just a night, she changed us.

Liza listens. She comforts. She uplifts. And even now, in a hospital gown and without her memory, she still gives better advice than most people ever could.

Right now, we want to do something small but powerful for her.

Her phone—her only link to the outside world—was accidentally thrown out by hospital staff. Now, she has an old iPod with no storage. She can’t listen to the music she loves—the music she remembers even when she forgets everything else. Music touches her in a way nothing else does. It calms her, centers her, connects to her neshama.

But it’s not just about music.

Her phone was also her connection to: Her friends, identity, her Instagram art page, comfort, through old family and friend photos.

We are raising money to buy Liza a new iPhone and headphones. Not just to give her entertainment—but to give her back a sense of normalcy, identity, and joy, for entertainment on the endless hospital days that feel like years… especially when there are no visitors.

Please help us bring light into her world. Let’s remind her that even in a hospital bed, she is seen. We all care. She is loved. She is still Liza—the girl who’s always been a bright, beautiful soul.

Donate if you can. Share if you can’t. Let’s give Liza her music, her memories, and her smile back—something to bring light into the endless hospital days that feel like years.

With so much gratitude,
Sari & Leah
