Bring Clean Water to the Children of Dak Lak: A Call to Action
Who are we?
We are second-generation Vietnamese Americans and Australians, bonded together through our parents’ lifelong friendship and shared love for Vietnam, our homeland. Being born, raised, and educated in the U.S. and Australia, Vietnam sometimes felt like a faraway place, but it was never far from our hearts. While we are fortunate to live in countries with abundant resources, we remain deeply aware that Vietnam, as a developing country, still has communities living in poverty.
In 2023, we founded the Green Kite Fund to turn our shared love for Vietnam into action. Through continuous fundraising activities and trips to Dak Lak, we strive to uplift these underserved communities. Our mission is not just to provide aid but to create small, meaningful changes that bring hope and opportunity to those who need it most.
What do we want?
We would like to bring clean water to the children of Dak Lak.
In Vietnam’s Dak Lak province, thousands of children face daily hardships, often without access to essentials like clean water. This need is especially acute in Ea Sup and M'Drak, where poverty is widespread, and basic resources are scarce. The districts of Ea Sup and M'Drak include 130 communes and 454 villages with extremely challenging conditions. By the end of 2023, over 46,000 families in the region lived in poverty, with ethnic minority groups making up more than 67% of that number. Nearly 34,000 additional families are classified as near-poor, and for these communities, every day is a struggle to meet basic needs.
Our charity project is focused on installing two water filtration systems for two primary schools - one in Ea Sup and one in M'Drak to provide a total of 900 students with daily access to safe, clean drinking water. These systems will cost around $3,000 USD but will have an immeasurable impact. Access to clean water reduces the risk of waterborne diseases like cholera and diarrhea, improving health, attendance, and the quality of life for these young students.
Why Donate and Why Us?
During our previous visit to Ea Sup, we were profoundly impacted by the difficult conditions the children endure. Yet, despite it all, they welcomed us with wide, radiant smiles. These smiles, shining through their challenges, are what inspired us to act. We believe these children deserve the fundamental right to safe drinking water. They richly deserve it.
Every dollar you donate will go directly to the cause—none will be spent on our travel or accommodations.
Our goal is to be on site and complete this project before the end of 2024, presenting these two water filtration systems as a Christmas and New Year gift to these children and their communities.
Please join us in bringing clean water to the students of Ea Sup and M'Drak. Your action can make a world of difference. Thank you for your compassion and generosity.
