This is about both grandchildren, Charlotte, 8, and Kimberly, 6. My wife and I raised both children for 4 years as my daughter had both children at 17 and 19, respectively. Grace met a man when she was 5 months pregnant who was 13 years older than her, who we feel has manipulated, controlled, and alienated her even after they split up. My daughter and he took over co-parenting at one point, while their relationship lasted off and on for a year or less. When they split, my daughter and he did 50/50. He does not have custody, and he is not the biological father of either girl. He is not on any birth certificates.

About 6 months ago, he started telling my daughter, my wife, and myself when we were allowed to see them, effectively cutting the children off from their natural family. Four months ago, he started making it close to impossible for us to see them. Since November, he has not let any of us see them. We did not see them at Christmas or for Kimberly's birthday.

My daughter actually has full custody, and he is not on either birth certificate.

In short, he is a non-family member that is taking us to court for custody. In addition, he is saying he is the biological father of Kimberly, even though he met Grace when she was 5 months pregnant. He has sworn that he is the natural father to the courts.

My wife and I are both on Social Security disability.

My daughter is a recovered addict who is working, but the cost of lawyers is astronomical.

I never thought I would be in this situation. My daughter is a mess without her babies, as are we.

We have to fight this in court so he can’t get custody of them.
