Support Sushi Ajito Recover from the Strip Mall Fire
Donation protected
Dear friends, patrons, and community members,
Many of you may have already heard the devastating news: a fire that started in an auto-parts store spread to Sushi Ajito, destroying our small family-owned restaurant in Hollywood, CA. This restaurant was more than a business to us—it was a labor of love, a dream fulfilled, and a gathering space that brought joy to many.
Chef Hi (Steve), a first-generation immigrant, moved his family of five to California in 2005 with only enough money to cover rent for a two-bedroom apartment. Over the next two decades, he poured his heart into his craft as a sushi chef, finally taking over Sushi Ajito in 2023.
Over the past year, our family worked together to renovate the space, revamp our menu, and create welcoming atmosphere for our customers. Our family put everything on the line—pouring our savings, including Chef Hi's retirement fund—into Sushi Ajito, driven by hope and determination to make it a success.
The disaster left us heartbroken and the space in ruins. While we are immensely grateful that no one was injured, the damage is extensive, any compensations will take years, and rebuilding feels overwhelming.
We’re reaching out to you—our friends, supporters, and beloved community—to ask for help in this challenging time. Your generosity will provide us with the hope and resources to recover and navigate the uncertain road ahead.
Funds raised will be used to:
- Address outstanding loans of $76K incurred to open the business.
- Support our staff as they transition through this crisis.
- Explore options for a future location or rebuilding.
- Replace essential equipment, furniture, and supplies lost in the fire.
Our goal is to raise $500,000 to help us get back on our feet. Every contribution, no matter the size, will have a meaningful impact as we begin to rebuild our lives and dream.
