Help us bring a mobile sensory space to Tuscaloosa!

Help us make Tuscaloosa a more inclusive and safe place by donating to a Sensory Activation Vehicle!

The Sensory Activation Vehicle (SAV) will be supplied at events and venues in our community for anyone who might be experiencing sensory overload to take a quiet break before engaging with others without becoming too overwhelmed and overstimulated. The SAV will be built by KultureCity, a non-profit dedicated to "making the never possible", and is the world's leader in improving sensory accessibility and acceptance for those with invisible disabilities and sensory needs.

Our population of children in Tuscaloosa is continuing to grow, but the area lacks a lot of the resources needed to meet the demand. With 1 in 4 individuals living with a sensory issue or other invisible disability, this vehicle could potentially help hundreds of individuals be able to be included at community events.

By having an SAV on-site and available at events, individuals who may otherwise not be able to consider attending or participating fully will be able to stay and engage. Often individuals with sensory difficulties or other invisible disabilities can return to activities if a brief period of relief is available. The SAV puts the child or adult who is experiencing dysregulation in charge of their sensory needs and also mutes the overwhelm of outside sensory input.

What’s more is families of children and other individuals will also be able to more fully engage with the community and at events, knowing that there is an option for relief available to their loved one. We know loneliness is a huge contributor to poor health—spiritually, physically, and mentally. There is much isolation present among the 1 in 4 individuals with a sensory or invisible disability, and often their families. By providing tools such as the SAV, the city of Tuscaloosa is inviting those who often go unseen and who often are marginalized into experiences, and ultimately, into community.

The cost for the trailer is $50,000, which includes putting all the sensory items in it, as well as a customized wrap, and then will be delivered to us by KultureCity.

Together we can make Tuscaloosa a more inclusive and stronger community. Please help us make this a reality by donating to our campaign.

*This campaign is a part of Rooted Tuscaloosa: a new nonprofit in Tuscaloosa that aims to make the arts, mental health services, and The Gospel accessible to children and families in West Alabama and beyond. As we launch this brand-new nonprofit this fall, we wanted our first fundraiser to go towards this Sensory Activation Vehicle.
