Donate To Build Water Wells In Africa
Donation protected
Brighten up a villagers life today with a water well this year.
About Us
Founded by Anwar Sabir Shah in 2021 as a small crowdfunding project, Umoja Clean Water Foundation builds water infrastructure throughout the Eastern Ugandan region. Born in Jinja, Uganda, but raised in the UK, Anwar Shah visited Uganda in 2021 for the first time in 22 years. His visit to his grandmother's hometown, initiated the need to come up with solutions to address water scarcity and provide other basic necessities, such as clothing and food.
Thus far, we have built 20 new wells and repaired 14 existing wells, which have provided water to over 3500 villagers in the region.
We are always seeking to find different ways to support the community, through food, clothing, and accessible water. Your donations and continued support have allowed us to succeed with our mission, thank you for being united (Umoja) with us in ensuring that water, a basic necessity, is accessible to all in Uganda.
Previous Collection
We collected around $26,000 through crowdfunding efforts in Texas and England.
Current Goal
Our current fundraising goal for the year 2025 is $80,000.
Pending Projects
- Purchase borehole machine (imported from China) in order to reduce hardship to workers, safety, ability to reach deeper and bigger aquifer, includes related material costs
- Purchase a truck locally to transport the borehole machine to various drilling sites
- Build Mosques from ground up in two villages, in the Pallisa region, and complete the construction of the third
- Provide transport (through purchase of a used motorbike) for an Imam in a village, he currently walks 7 km to teach children Quran and Islamic studies
- Build a three room classroom and an office in the Mosque compound in the Odwarat village
- Employ the assistance of individuals within the villages to carry out these projects
Why a borehole machine? A borehole machine (pictured below), is a well digging machine, that tunnels a hole into the earth to reach an aquifer. Digging manually by hand can take up to a month, and may be harmful for workers due to the well walls caving in. A borehole machine is far more efficient, by completing the construction of wells in less than three weeks and being far safer to operate.
Places where we have built wells: Bulyansime, Kaikoura, Wansimba, Kagwese, Semuto, Kabayingire, Kalala Kabi, Kagoli Central, Nakabira, Namungalwe, Katalekamese, Buwongo, Bugweri and Kaucho.
Due to increased demand and scarcity of water in rural areas, we are expanding our water aid infrastructure projects throughout Eastern Uganda. Donate today and give the gift of water to a community in need.
