Brighten the lives of people in Nigeria

Ekasun (Greetings) Everyone,

My name is Korede, thank you for taking the time to read this message. I am a Nigerian based in Maryland, USA. My team and I will be in Delta State, Nigeria March 2022, distributing solar lanterns to families in remote areas where many regions lack access to electricity. According to the World Bank, "85 million Nigerians don't have access to grid electricity. This makes Nigeria with the largest energy access deficit in the world." (World Bank Group, Feb 2021). Many poor Nigerians must generate power using kerosene generators which produce carbon monoxide and nitric oxides (NOx), which are contributing factors to asthma and lung cancer. Our ultimate goal is to distribute about 150 solar lantern to each family residing in Ughelli, Delta (Mainland).

After searching through many companies and social enterprises for one that fits my mission, I’ve decided to partner with Luminaid (www.luminaid.com), a Chicago-based company which was founded after the massive earthquake that struck Haiti in 2010. The Luminaid portable light is a durable, weather resistant, solar rechargeable light that weighs only a few ounces. The small solar panel is simple to use, the battery charges in a few hours, and the light can be saved for use during the night. Simple innovations like this can make a big difference for families without access to electricity, and don’t require fossil fuels that harm their health and environment.

Please join me in the fight to end energy poverty in Africa and may God Bless you as you give.
