We are a group of six students who have just left college and recently had the life-changing opportunity to travel to Malawi with the support from Malawi relief fund to support the incredible children at Shukran Orphanage. This trip was more than just a volunteering experience it was a journey filled with connection, compassion, and unforgettable joy.

At Shukran Orphanage, we dedicated our time to enriching the children’s lives through education, creativity, and play. We brought a wide range of essential learning and activity resources including books, stationery, parachutes, hula hoops, skipping ropes, and much more to support their learning and development and spark their curiosity. But our days weren’t just about learning; they were filled with laughter, music and a lot of movement.

Over the two weeks, we experienced a full spectrum of emotions from comforting children during quiet, vulnerable moments to running, dancing, and laughing alongside them as their joy lit up every space. These shared moments were deeply meaningful and unforgettable, showing us the strength, spirit, and potential each child holds.

One of the highlights of our trip was organizing a fun-filled Sports Day. We planned races, games, and team activities that brought so many smiles and moments of pure joy. The children’s energy, enthusiasm, and team spirit were incredible to witness. We also shared countless moments of singing, dancing, storytelling, and playing, creating memories we’ll cherish forever.

As part of our journey, we also visited Blackburn College Nursery, which we had previously fundraised for. It was incredibly moving to see the progress being made and to witness how our fundraising efforts are helping bring this space to life. Once completed, the nursery will provide a safe, nurturing, and stimulating environment for many young children laying the foundation for their early learning and development. Being there in person made the impact of our work feel even more real, and meaningful.

We also spent time visiting nearby villages, where we saw first hand how little the communities had in terms of material resources, yet we were welcomed with open arms, warm smiles, and unmatched kindness. Despite the hardships they face, the people of Malawi showed us the true meaning of generosity and resilience.

This experience deeply touched our hearts, and we are committed to making a lasting difference in these children's lives. With your help, we can keep the smiles going, continue their education, and support their dreams.
