Background
In partnership with Bridges to Prosperity, this June I will be travelling to Rwanda as part of a group of 10 volunteers from Balfour Beatty and Mott MacDonald to build a 116m long suspension bridge across the Kirutamwogo River.
During the rainy season, river crossings become extremely dangerous and often impossible. With no safe way to cross, children can't attend school, healthcare remains out of reach, and farmers struggle to sell their produce. This bridge will provide safe, year-round access to essential services, education, and opportunities - empowering an entire community for generations to come.
How can you help?
We are raising funds to cover the cost of travel, additional luggage fees, accommodation, vaccinations, visas, travel insurance, personal protective equipment (PPE), construction tools, fundraising events, expenses whilst in Rwanda, media services (for documentation and communications), and resources for the local community (textbooks, school uniforms, toiletries, medications, etc.).
If we are lucky enough to exceed our fundraising target, the excess funds will be used by Bridges to Prosperity to support their general operations and wider programme. Any contribution towards this cause will be greatly appreciated - thank you! :)
