I Might be Sitting Next to a Homeless Student
At a local school board meeting I sadly learned homeless students might be in some of my classes. I had no idea. I decided then I needed to make a difference. I’m Jack Redick, a high school senior and Boy Scout in Williamsburg, VA Troop 300. I’m hoping you might help me help them. The school board president suggested a local county domestic violence shelter, Bridges of Change, needed help. https://www.bridgesofchange.org/ Bridges of Change supports domestic violence victims by providing shelter, advocacy, and a way back to a violence free life through referrals to community resources to include counseling, education, job skills, financial counseling, and housing.
Unfortunately, the shelter has a long list of needs. One of the priorities is creating secure storage for client belongings and shelter supplies. Shelter clients also have no place to relax outdoors. As part of my Eagle Scout Service Project, I’m looking to change that by building a large multi-door secure storage locker, creating storage space in a walk-in attic and a building picnic table that converts into two benches.
Funds raised all go to provide the lumber and other materials needed for these projects. Any excess funds will go to support the long list of other items on the Bridges of Change wish list. It has been such a pleasure working with them and I want to do what I can to thank the shelter for helping me on my Eagle Scout journey. Thank you so much for coming in to see why I’ve set this page up and thank you even more if you donated and/or shared this link. It’s my hope that in a small way, this Eagle project helps improve the lives and futures of very deserving people and fellow students.
