BRFC Fundraiser for the Center for Policing Equity
Tax deductible
The Bowdoin Rugby Football Club (BRFC) stands in solidarity with Black communities across the country and all who bravely stand for equity and justice. We condemn the tragic killings of George Floyd, Breonna Taylor, Tony McDade, Ahmaud Arbery, and countless others at the hands of racists as well as the institutions that permit and too often facilitate such acts of racism. We recognize that the American criminal justice system is not broken, but operating as it was historically intended: as a means of disproportionately and unjustly oppressing, detaining, and killing Black Americans and people of color. We demand radical and equitable change to that institution and all others that perpetrate and perpetuate white supremacy, hatred, and injustice.
Today, BRFC prides itself on upholding inclusivity among our core values. Rugby teaches us to love our teammates and respect our opponents regardless of race, color, creed, sexuality, gender expression, and physical and mental ability. And yet, we must also recognize the enormous privileges afforded to us as a team and college that is still statistically, historically, and culturally majority-white. In this time, silence and inaction is are deafening and unconscionable.
In solidarity with our fellow Americans who fight for justice, BRFC is establishing a fundraiser to support the Center for Policing Equity, which is working to put an end to police brutality and institutional racism in the American criminal justice system by, in their words, "working directly with police to measure behaviors and revise policies results in fewer people killed, and fewer people in jail."

CPE uses science to promote justice. A research and action think tank, we use data driven interventions to help law enforcement examine their policies, behaviors, and practices to eliminate bialsed policing and ensure safer communities.
We analyze data on stops, police contact and use of force, and measure disparities in order to understand and recommend changes for law enforcement procedures.
We use data to build fairer and more just systems. >> We partner with law enforcement and communities. Our aim is to bridge the divide of communication, generational mistrust, and suffering.
