Baby Brett's Continued Care and Medical Bills
On October 25, 2020 Bianca and John Kranz' son, Brett Aaron, was born 13 weeks early weighing 0lbs 14oz. Through a mountain of prayers, the grace of God, and the amazing staff at Sharp Mary Birch, Brett is finally home after 165 long days in the NICU.
Brett was diagnosed with severe IUGR (Intrauterine Growth Restriction) which limited his growth during pregnancy and eventually led to Bianca's emergency C-section.
While in the NICU, Brett underwent multiple surgeries including repairing a bilateral inguinal hernia and laser eye surgery to help combat ROP ( Retinopathy of Prematurity) which can lead to blindness. He had several blood transfusions, multiple IVs and PICC lines, eye injections, two staph infections, daily exams, and most profoundly, he was diagnosed with Chronic Lung Disease.
While Brett has been discharged and is home where he belongs, his level of care remains high. He is currently home and dependent on high-flow oxygen. He has multiple medications, a nebulizer, weekly follow up appointments, future surgeries and a long journey ahead. My hope in creating this fundraiser is to help ease the financial burden of the NICU costs for Bianca and John and the costs of his continued care. John and Bianca do have insurance, but with medical costs exceeding well over $1 million, out of pocket costs are still high.
**Update 09/06**
Brett has been making really great progress (eating better and recently got off oxygen) but Bianca and John recently received heartbreaking news. Brett was diagnosed with a rare form of liver cancer called Hepatoblastoma. Time is of the essence for treatment and Brett will have surgery 09/13 to put in a Hickman line to administer chemo. As of now the plan will be to have two rounds of chemo and then surgery to remove the tumor, followed by an additional 2-4 rounds after surgery. As you can imagine chemo will be really tough on little Brett and after each chemo session he will remain in the hospital for monitoring.
Thank you for your love and support.
