Brent’s Battle, Our Family’s Fight - Support the Bachman’s

Hi, my name is Jessica, and I’m the oldest daughter in the Bachman family.

On Tuesday, May 13th, our world turned upside down when we received the devastating news that my dad, Brent Bachman, was diagnosed with Anaplastic Thyroid Cancer—the rarest and most aggressive form of thyroid cancer. Because of its rapid progression, the prognosis is not good. We’ve learned that it has already spread to his lymph nodes and possibly to his lungs. At this stage, surgery is not an option.

Despite this, our incredible team at the Cross Cancer Institute has been working tirelessly to give us hope. Dad is currently on round 6 of 10 in his radiation treatment, and we’re anxiously waiting to hear if he qualifies for a targeted chemotherapy drug that could be life-changing—fingers and toes crossed that it’s approved at no cost through the company.

This is not something I ever imagined having to do. But right now, the last thing we need to worry about is finances. Everyday my parents are driving over an hour each way to Edmonton for appointments and treatment. My mom is his full time caregiver and hasn’t left his side. I’ve been traveling back and forth from my home in Sylvan Lake to spend time with my family and take over as many farm and house chores that I can. The cost of gas, parking, meals, and time off work is adding up quickly.

Any support, no matter how big or small, to help cover our everyday costs means the world to us. If you’re not in a place to give financially, we’d be so grateful for your positive energy, prayers, and belief in our dad’s strength. We are holding onto hope with everything we’ve got and believing that he will beat this.

My dad has so much more life to live, more memories to make, more sunsets to watch and two daughters to walk down the aisle someday. We believe in him and your love and support will help lift him up through this fight.

Any funds not used will be donated to the Cross Cancer Institute in Edmonton so that other families in crisis can receive the same care and compassion that we have been blessed with.
