Please support Chloe & Jade's triathlon for safer spaces!
We are raising funds so that disabled and immunocompromised people can safely access indoor social and cultural events. We are doing a triathlon on 7th September: running, cycling and swimming the length of Sheffield!
We are fundraising for Breathe Easy Sheffield, a non-profit organisation that we have set up to promote social events with infection safety measures in place that reduce covid and disease transmission risk.
We are asking family and friends to help us support better inclusion in public spaces.
Why are we doing this?
Since the covid-19 pandemic started, many people cannot take the risk of attending in-person events, especially those who are clinically vulnerable to covid and other infectious diseases, or the people who care for and live with them. Since effective precautions have been dropped, thousands of people are living in permanent lockdown - unable to enjoy going to the cafés, gigs, or other social events they loved so much.
This is a really personal cause for us: people we love and care about have been disabled by long covid and/or are at very high risk from covid infection. An estimated 2 million people in the UK have long covid, and more than 3 million people are living with cancer. That's a lot of people who could be dangerously impacted by another covid infection but who would also probably really like to go to the pub.
About the triathlon
We will each be running, cycling and swimming the equivalent length of Sheffield City on Saturday 7th September, along a route in the peak district near Bamford/Hathersage. We're calling it a try-athlon because we've not trained, so it will probably be really hard ;) if you want to come cheer us on, let us know.
What will we do with the cash?
We are in the process of setting up Breathe Easy as a formal organisation - with a committee, constitution and all the paperwork. The organisation is being run by us as volunteers.
All money from our crowdfunder will be used to set up and run safer events including purchasing air quality devices (eg co2 monitors, purifiers); venue costs (eg equipment and space hire); insurance (yawn); marketing and promotion. If you have any questions, please do drop us a message.
