Homeless Prevention to Sustain Recovery Goals.

My name is Teri Rogers, and I serve as the Organizer of this account, an Advocate, Author, and the Founder/CEO of the 501(c)3 NONPROFIT Organization, Breaking Stigmas Treatment Operation.

As a survivor of SKIDROW, I am dedicated to maintaining consistency in my recovery journey and leading by example with my lived experience and evidence-based research. I strongly believe that Breaking Stigmas Treatment Operation has the potential to bridge the gaps in meeting the needs of the unhoused community and individuals living with mental health and substance use disorders. By establishing a network that carefully screens and hires compassionate individuals to care for the most vulnerable, we can provide timely and essential services to those in urgent need. Access to proper care is a human right, and having a team of well-suited employees is crucial in addressing the social and economic challenges faced by our communities.

In my own treatment, I learned the importance of advocating for my needs assertively rather than resorting to aggression or passive-aggressiveness. Through Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT), I am acquiring skills in emotional regulation, distress tolerance, mindfulness, and conflict resolution. It is essential to handle clients with care, listen to their concerns, and ask the right questions to match them with a case manager and treatment team that can help them discover their purpose and achieve their treatment goals.

I advocate for round-the-clock services as crises do not adhere to regular business hours. Providing continuous support is essential in preventing exacerbation of issues and supporting individuals on their path to recovery. By breaking stigmas, upholding human rights, and promoting compassionate care, we can make a meaningful impact on the lives of those in need.

We are currently fundraising to support the provision of services to the unhoused population and individuals living with mental health and/or substance use disorders, including both formerly and currently incarcerated individuals. Breaking Stigmas Treatment Operation aims to extend its services to veterans, seniors, teens, and single parents with young children.

With your generous donations, we will be able to offer not only housing but also the crucial treatment, education, bill payment assistance, and essential life skills that our clients are desperately in need of. Our primary objective is to leverage our platform to raise awareness and inspire, motivate, and encourage others, while assisting them in securing and maintaining permanent housing, mental and physical wellness, and sobriety. Our mission is to support those in need in rediscovering their purpose and understanding that they are valued, while aiding our clients in leading healthy lifestyles.

Having experienced homelessness and mental illness firsthand, I understand the challenges faced by individuals in similar situations. In 2018, I was featured as one of the two protagonists in the award-winning documentary "Game Girls" (recognized in Spain and Germany, and nominated six times worldwide). My personal journey has taught me invaluable lessons through the treatment center I attended, the support groups, and the daily activities that initially seemed daunting but ultimately proved to be empowering and life-changing for both myself and others.

My commitment to service lies in giving back to the community I once belonged to, as well as to other underserved communities such as Downtown Los Angeles, particularly Skid Row. Together, we can make a meaningful difference in the lives of those who need it most. Thank you for considering supporting our cause and joining us in this vital mission.
