Mission: To promote self-reliance by addressing all barriers that hinder the holistic well-being (mind, body, spirit) of individuals and families. Our purpose is to educate, inspire, advocate, consult, counsel, and increase awareness in historically marginalized, rural, communities of color, and beyond in support of a better way of life.

Shackle Free relies on private donations to support operations costs that are not covered by grant funding. Currently, Shackle Free is administering grants that relate to the COVID-19 pandemic. However, these funds do not address the underlying issues of poverty that enter our Warsaw (Duplin County) headquarters daily, nor those that present themselves at the monthly events we host in rural, disparaged communities within Duplin, Onslow, and surrounding counties. It does not fully address the shackles of food scarcity, teen pregnancy, juvenile crime, family unification, joblessness, high utilities, substance abuse, felon re-entry, or the other shackles that create an atmosphere of disdain and hopelessness that is currently riddling our communities.

Programs/Services:

COVID-19/PANDEMIC Rapid Response Command Center: Provides instant access to FREE at-home test kits, PPE, and other pandemic-related necessities. Location: 226 W. College Street, Suite B., Warsaw. HOURS: Tues-Thurs 10-3 p.m.

The Shackle Free Buzz: Utilizing trusted messengers to transmit health and wellness info and tips through barber and beauty institutions. Events are hosted monthly.

Momma Kine's Closet: Providing food, clothing, and hygiene items on a walk-in basis.

HOURS of OPERATION: Tues-Thurs 10-3 p.m.

Higher Ground Transportation: Providing transportation services to address vaccine equity and food scarcity, AT NO COST. By appointment only.

URWell(NC): Umbrella for all Shackle Free's programs. Utilizes a one-stop-shop and "no-wrong-door" policy to navigate individuals to the resources they need to become holistically healthy.

URWELL-NC PROGRAMS & SUPPORT GROUPS:

GoodDaddies Fatherhood Initiative - "visible dads, visible change"
MOMS: "Mothers Overcoming Many Shackles" support group for mothers that have lost their children"
Camp Unity - Next Generation: "Kids: Wearing Shackles As Armor" Responsible for a plummet in juvenile crime from 50 to 1 during its tenure.
Senior Care - providing support to the elderly, housebound, and those living with disabilities.
Diabetic Freedom Support Group: Holistic support for Type II Diabetes
Community Health Ambassador Program: One-on-one life coaching to self-reliance. Shackle Free CHA's are certified in the areas of: nursing, psychologists, strengths-based family workers, sociologists, criminal justice, barber/beauty, substance use and misuse, nutrition, education, early childhood, and more!!
Ribbons of Love: Peer to Peer Cancer support to assist with lodging, food, travel expenses and other items not covered by insurance.

Lastly, but equally important, grant-seeking entities are required to and should have a sustainability plan to ensure that services can financially continue when grant cycles end. We don't want anyone to leave the same way they came. We give a hand up, not a hand out. Change comes with change. We are the trusted messengers in our communities!
