Monday Dec.9th. Braxton and his little brother were on their way to school when he fell. His momma took him to the ER where a they ran a cat scan and a tumor that appeared to be the size of a nickel was found in his brain. He was quickly transported to Cooks Children's Hospital and Monday afternoon they ran a thorough MRI. The results show the tumor was NOT as big as a nickel but was the size of a Kiwi.
Braxton went into surgery at 1:24 PM on Tuesday and what we had anticipated as a 6 hr surgery stretched on into 10 hrs. The tumor was measured at 2.5 inches and was heavily involved on Braxtons brain stem.
Pathology came back and verified it was a Grade 2 Ependymoma. Malignant. The Dr believes that he was able to remove it all however the surgery left complications that have not yet been fully realized. He is able to breathe for short stents on his own before the machine has to kick in and help again. He still is not "awake" but gave us a thumbs up when asked. Perhaps soon they can take him off the ventilator.
His short term care plan involves 2 rounds of daily radiation. (Once a day for 6 weeks per round) and frequent MRIs over the next 12 months. Braxton and all of us will have a long journey ahead, but I am so thankful that he is here to take it.
His mom is facing another burden of not only dealing with this nightmare but also the day to day providing for Braxton and his little brother AJ. (Rent, Utilities, Food and Gas)
Christmas is coming quickly and the family will be staying at the hospital through it all. We are praying for a miracle.
Please consider helping my grandsons and their mom as they navigate these hellish waters. Any little bit you could spare would make an impact greater than you know.
Sincerely,
A very thankful Ya-Ya
