Bravo Family Rent Fund
Donation protected
There are things we see on TV each day that make us laugh or shake our head in disbelief but there are very few things that we see that move us to action.
Today while watching NBC6 News I caught a segment called Helping Hands, a feature on the food lines at Miami-Dade County Schools and a particular family in it, the Bravo Family.
Freddy and his wife have 10 children and 13 grandchildren. Twice a week they wait in line to get meals for themselves and their grandchild who they are now taking care of while their parents work and schools are closed.
They are not making ends meet. Freddy does food deliveries on his bike and his wife cleans houses when she can, she hasn't been able to recently because of the grand kids. They are two months behind in rent and behind in utilities.
Watching them share their story and seeing the pain and embarrassment in their eyes brought me to tears. I knew I had to do something so I reached out to Stephanie Bertini, the reporter, to see if there was anything set up to help them. I gave her my number and asked that they call me. Freddy called, I explained to him that I wanted to help. He didn't ask for anything and wouldn't tell me what he needed but he appreciated any help.
My goal is help them at least get up to date with rent and have an extra month to get on their feet if I can.
Why did this story move me so much? I think it was because they reminded me of my grandparents. My grandparents took care of my brother and me while my parents worked. They had so little but everything they had they gave to us. And because this could be any of us. So many live pay check to pay check and how many of us are 1 or 2 checks away from finding ourselves in the same situation?
I am rallying my family, friends, friends of friends, and strangers to help the Bravo Family in anyway you can. Every little bit count. If you can donate, please do and if you can't, please sure this fundraiser with someone who maybe can.
