At 44, I carry a story that changed the course of my life. In 2020, I was an unexplained Oncology patient, which led to a final diagnosis of Sarcoma cancer in 2022 — a diagnosis that led me through multiple operations, deep uncertainty, and ultimately, a transformation in how I live.

Cancer challenged not only my body but also my mindset, relationships, and sense of purpose. Recovery wasn’t just about treatment — it demanded a complete reset of how I nourished myself, mentally and physically.

Through that journey, I discovered the powerful impact of community, resilience, and aligned living. Since being cancer-free, I’ve had countless conversations with other men on the same path — friends, peers, strangers — all seeking the kind of support I once longed for.

Brave Roots was born from that need: a space to heal, connect, and grow stronger together.

Through curated retreats, meaningful conversations, and practical guidance, Brave Roots is more than a healing space — it’s a movement toward deeper strength, connection, and renewal.

Over recent months, we have clarified our mission. Which is:

‘To empower men facing cancer by providing community, knowledge, and mindset tools that help them navigate their personal journey — and to make a meaningful difference to as many people as we can.’

This mission is grounded around three fundamental pillars:

Community

Creating long-lasting, meaningful connection and support through safe spaces, retreats, group circles, and a global brotherhood.

Knowledge

Providing understanding that builds confidence and the ability to act, through workshops, expert talks, podcasts, and accessible educational tools.

Mindset

Helping men rebuild emotional resilience, identity, confidence, and inner stability as they navigate the challenges of diagnosis, treatment, and life beyond cancer.

In-person retreat

Our next major step will be to host our first Brave Roots retreat in March. This will be a learning experience, and we are approaching it with openness and humility — aiming to learn what works well and what can be improved. What feels most important is making a start and evolving as we go, rather than waiting for perfection.

For this first retreat, we are aiming for a group of between six and eight participants, an initiative completely free for the participants.

Fundraising

We are in the process of establishing Brave Roots as a formal charity. Following this, we hope to invite support from the wider community — friends, colleagues, and the public - to help us build some initial momentum.

In the longer term, our ambition is for Brave Roots to become self-sustaining through a thoughtful mix of donations and income from services such as retreats, coaching, and related offerings. For now, however, we are seeking a kick-start donation drive to help us get things moving.

Call for help

We are hoping that we can raise some early funds to help us complete our first retreat, support 5 individuals through our 8 week transformative program and establish charity status in the UK.

The funds we hope to raise will go into making our first retreat a success and we believe it will provide the foundation for us to grow and help a greater number of people who have had or are having a journey with cancer. In addition, the costs will also be used to support five individuals currently navigating Cancer through an 8 week transformative 1-1 coaching program and finally to establish the setup of the charity platform in the UK.
