My name is Lizi Carbrey, and I've begun this GoFundMe to help my nephew David's family with the cost of a wheelchair accessible minivan that will allow David to more easily visit the people and places he loves, and even improve the accessibility in his home if funds allow.
As many of you know, five-year-old David has cerebral palsy (spastic quadriplegic cerebral palsy), and uses several devices to get around. To stay upright during the day, he uses a standing frame. To develop his walking skills, he uses a gait trainer. And just recently, David received his very own personalized wheelchair which has provided a huge jump in his ability to explore the world with his family.
However, all these devices take up quite a bit of room, and a standard minivan isn’t up to the task. What David and the Shumway family need is an adapted minivan that can accommodate his wheelchair so that he can safely get around. Any additional funds raised will be used to make wheelchair accessible home modifications.
A donation to the “Brave Dave Fund” would help David’s family purchase such a van and continue supporting this incredible five-year-old, not only in the progress he has made, but also in the significant challenges that remain ahead. Having an adaptive vehicle would give him the freedom to continue his physical development and maintain community and family connections. David's parents, Ben and Kathleen, and big brother Daniel, are tremendously grateful for any support you can provide. No amount is too small. Contact Lizi if you’d like alternative giving methods. Thank you for helping us all love and care for David. Together we can get this wonderful child on the move!
