Brainy Dogs
At Headway Suffolk, we help people rebuild their lives after brain injury, stroke, and neurological conditions. One of the most unique and life-changing ways we do this is through Brainy Dogs – our much-loved canine-assisted rehabilitation programme.
What is Brainy Dogs?
Brainy Dogs are rescue dogs trained by prisoners and our service users to become loyal companions for individuals living with the effects of brain injury.
Through this project:
Dogs are rescued and given a second chance at life.
People with brain injuries build confidence, communication, and purpose through dog care and training.
Our trained Brainy Dogs go on to provide emotional support and companionship for those most in need.
It’s therapy, rehabilitation, and rescue – all in one.
Why We Need Your Help
The cost of food, veterinary care, training, and transport has risen sharply, and we are now supporting more people than ever. To keep Brainy Dogs running and free to those who need it most, we need your support.
We are aiming to raise £10,000 to:
Provide food and essential supplies for our dogs
Cover veterinary bills and health checks
Fund training sessions and staff support
Keep the programme accessible to more people with neurological conditions
Every Pound Helps
£10 buys food for one dog for a week
£25 covers a basic health check
£100 supports a training session with a client
£250 helps train a Brainy Dog to be rehomed with a person in need
❤️ Real Lives, Real Change
“Before Brainy Dogs, I rarely spoke or left the house. Now I help train and care for a dog who gives me a reason to get up each day.”
