Why are defibrillators important?

A defibrillator is important because it's the only device that can restart a heart during sudden cardiac arrest (SCA), and it significantly increases a person's chance of survival. For every minute that passes without a defibrillator and cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR), survival rates decrease by about 10%. Defibrillators, especially Automated External Defibrillators (AEDs), are vital in public places, as they are designed for use by untrained bystanders and can be the difference between life and death while waiting for emergency services.
