Hi, my name is Matt. I am a teacher and a rugby enthusiast. I am raising money for my local rugby club and the Samaritans charity, hoping to raise some awareness along the way.
Every day in the UK, on average, 16 people take their own life. This is a devastating statistic that can also be prevented. To help raise awareness, and show people who are in pain there are other options, I will be walking 16 marathons in 16 days (07/08/24 - 22/08/24).
Mental health has always played an important role in my life, affecting me personally as well as those around me. However, 18 months ago I had an accident requiring a number of surgeries. My mental health declined and I really began to struggle. Having the support of my loved ones, my rugby club and charities, such as the Samaritans, really helped me through a difficult and dark time.
This process is going to be challenging, both physically and mentally, but I hope to raise money and awareness for some wonderful and deserving causes along the way. All the funds raised will be split equally to my rugby club and the Samaritans, helping pay for things like kit and support for people like me who were struggling and in need of help.
Any and all donations are thoroughly appreciated!
