Earlier this year my husband, Fiore, decided to set up a mental health support group to help those in our local community suffering with their mental health. He has worked in this field for over 30 years and decided it was his time to give something back to the community. So, on the 31st January this year, after years in the planning, B positive CIC was founded. It started with my husband running the group with a close friend of ours, Ali, and it began with just 4 or 5 members attending regularly. Now, almost a year on, there is a consistent 20-25 members who attend the weekly group sessions. Some saying ‘B positive has saved their lives’.

The group is an all inclusive group for over 18’s and it runs workshops within the weekly 2 hour session to help with all aspects of anxiety, depression, isolation, wellbeing, stress, safety planning, coping skills, and all other areas of mental health. Also, our facilitators are experts in mental health, housing, employment, benefits, domestic violence, to name a few.

The ethos of the group is to support those in the community living with mental health to thrive in their community and help others and in turn, pay it forward. The group is completely self funded by the founder, and has no external financial support.

Isolation is a big part of mental health especially this time of year where people often hide away from others which has a massive effect on a persons mental health. We are therefore looking at ways to support our community in different ways which may include arranging social events, trips out, having a safe place for people to come and ensuring no one is isolating themselves at this time of year.

B positive CIC is looking for donations to be able to continue to support people in the community with their mental health. All donations are welcome, no matter how small. This will help enable the group to continue with its valued work.
