Boston to DC Police Bike Ride 2022

This year’s Boston to DC Ride will take place in May 2022 preceding National Police Week. The ride motto is “We ride for those who survived”, is a 400 plus mile bicycle ride over several days. The goal is to bring awareness to the dangers, sacrifice, and challenges facing Law Enforcement Officers. The law enforcement profession incurs great sacrifice that leave deep often times disabling scars; emotionally, physically and financially.
As we moved into the pandemic years the role of Police Officers has changed tremendously. Unfathomable situations occurred and continue to take place in our communities, cities and country. On the front line of each situation are the Police who respond to the darkest moments in people’s lives and do everything in their power to restore peace. Officers respond to domestic disturbances, mental health crisis, tragic accidents, sexual assaults and some exceptionally violent assaults. Not to mention the emotional abuse and neglect inflicted on the elderly and children that is witnessed daily.
Many departments here in Massachusetts have Officers who are recovering from these dangerous incidents. While doing so, Officers and their families need to concentrate on their health and futures. In waiting to return to duty, Officers are usually out of work or in an administrative capacity, “offline”. Officers are in a position where they do not have their daily routine, support of their co-workers or close friends and often time feel “cast aside” and “forgotten”. Nothing could be further from the truth. These Officers fight daily to return to work and continue serving, just as they fought to survive the call for service that put them in this career in the first place.
The goal of the “Boston to DC” Ride during National Police Week is to bring awareness to this process. To let those Officers who are on the sidelines know they are not forgotten and bring attention to their courage and sacrifice. Between different corners of societies’ views on the Police, inaccurate or misinformed reporting in mainstream and social media outlets, Officers get extremely discouraged. The hope of this ride as we highlight Officers throughout the journey is twofold; First, to let our Brother and Sister Officers know that we have not forgotten their courage and sacrifice, that we are proud of their work and support them. Second, to bring these situations to the forefront so all members of our communities know the bravery, courage, valor and compassion these Officers exhibited during intense, life-threatening situations. And in this vein the hope is that the respect garnered by their fellow Officers, is garnered by the communities they serve.
In closing, the ride will go through many cities and towns including Boston, Providence, New York, Philadelphia, Dover, Annapolis and Washington D.C. Our team will be riding through farmland, sleepy neighborhoods, Amish country and some of the most dangerous areas of these cities. The Team will be representing our profession in direct reflection of the communities we serve nationwide. Along the way we will raise awareness and the funds necessary to complete the ride with the necessary support to accomplish this goal safely. The focus of this fund is to directly support Officers affected by these critical incidents to stay “on their feet”.
