I never thought I'd say this, but I'll be running the 130th Boston Marathon this coming April!!!
I'm proud to be raising funds for the Hopkinton (MA) Lions Club. I love their motto: "We Serve." It fits so closely with my own way of seeing the world and helping others.
Lions around the world, both historically and still today, are best known for fighting blindness, providing vision screenings and glasses. They also volunteer for many different kinds of community projects – including caring for the environment, feeding the hungry and aiding seniors and the disabled. They truly are a COMMUNITY-based service group. Perhaps some of you have participated in their annual speech contest for local students who may then move on to national competition.
Since 1968, the Lions Clubs International Foundation (LCIF) has awarded more than $870 million in grants to support Lions humanitarian projects around the world. Together, the Foundation and Lions are helping communities affected by natural disasters by providing for immediate needs such as food, water, clothing and medical supplies – and aiding in long-term reconstruction.
Please help me raise funds to help the Hopkinton Lions continue their community programs. As an all-volunteer organization, they rely on fundraising to keep going with their good work. In the recent past, Hopkinton Lions have
- participated in the Veteran's Affairs (VA) Valentines For Vets program, creating and delivering 274 homemade Valentine cards
- organized Community Yard Sale
- run a Golf Ball Drop fundraiser to help raise money for local charities, Lions International Fund programs, eye research, and Lions Club community service
- joined with the Hopkinton Senior Center for their semi-annual Repair Cafe, where community members bring "broken stuff" to a team of volunteer fix-it handymen (and women)
- hosted a Santa Special Kids Day for kids who find the mall experience of meeting Santa too stimulating or difficult
- facilitated the annual Lions High School Speech contest
THANK YOU FOR CONSIDERING A DONATION TO THE HOPKINTON LIONS!
