Firstly, thank you for visiting my gofundme page and taking the time to read my story
My name is Aimee and I am currently a student at the Thomas Hardye school. My goal is to help make a difference in the lives of other people and communities who are not as fortunate as myself and will really benefit from the expedition I intend to go on.
I would love to be part of this trip and part of the process is to fundraise and find sponsorship to help fund the expedition which will cost a total of £4980.
Over the coming year I will be holding various fundraisers and sponsorship events. I have lots of exciting ideas in mind.
Let me tell you a little about the trip with Camp International and what I will be getting involved in:
Community project work
I will be living and working alongside the locals to help develop the community. This will include long term conservation projects, building and improving sanitation, school facilities, constructing a recycling centre and installing freshwater storage systems.
I will be learning some skills along the way such as construction, painting, plastering and bricklaying. Plus working in the classrooms, teaching the young children and also learning about their local cultures.
Environmental project work
I will be involved in activities to tackle deforestation in Borneo, spending a few days at Camp International's Environmental camp planting trees to help reforest the area. I will see and understand the impact that Palm Oil trees are having on the area.
Next stop will be the Orangutan Rehabilitation Centre to see these amazing creatures in their natural habitat. I am beyond excited for this. I will learn about the conservation work happening here to protect these endangered species. This is a huge problem in Borneo.
There will also be work on the beaches cleaning up the rubbish that has washed ashore, plastic bottles will be repurposed to use as building materials such as a wall.
There will be some downtime, and I will have amazing opportunities to experience Borneo and its culture. I will also learn how to scuba dive and obtain a PADI qualification, this will help me understand the importance of protecting marine life.
As part of our stay, I will experience off grid living and will be trekking for 5 days through the Bornean jungle and sleeping in hammocks, certainly an experience I will never forget!
Overall, I think this trip will make a massive change on not only my life, but the life of the locals and endangered animals in Borneo, so I would massively appreciate any donations towards this trip as it is going to an amazing cause!
This expedition will be a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity which I don’t want to miss.
Again, thank you for reading my story
