Borneo community Projects

Hi my name is Ruby I am 14 and I am looking to raise funds to enable me to volunteer my time for 4 weeks with Camps International in Borneo - Asia in July 2025!

Growing up, my fascination with adventure and exploration was matched only by my desire to make a positive impact in the world. So when I learned about the opportunity to volunteer with Camps International in Borneo and work on community projects, I knew it was something I had to do.

Borneo's lush rainforests and diverse ecosystems called out to me, presenting the perfect opportunity to combine my love for adventure with my passion for conservation. The idea of working alongside local communities to protect wildlife, preserve natural habitats, and improve living conditions resonated deeply with me.

The urgency of the environmental challenges facing Borneo, such as deforestation and the plight of endangered species, fueled my determination to take action. Volunteering with Camps International wasn't just about experiencing the wonders of this unique environment; it was about actively participating in its preservation for future generations.

I was also drawn to the opportunity to immerse myself in a new culture and connect with people from different backgrounds. I believed that true understanding and empathy could only be gained through firsthand experience, and I was eager to learn from the indigenous communities of Borneo.

For me, volunteering with Camps International was about more than just completing tasks or ticking off a bucket list item. It was about building meaningful relationships and making a tangible difference in the lives of others. Whether it was constructing vital infrastructure, such as school kitchens providing facilities such as teacher accommodation and kitchens with the kitchens often providing the only meal a child would eat that day, or building kindergartens to provide education to children as they leave school during harvest to help parents farm the land, I was committed to giving my all to each project I undertook.

Additionally, I saw volunteering in Borneo as an opportunity for personal growth and development. Stepping outside of my comfort zone and facing new challenges would help me become more resilient, adaptable, and compassionate.

In essence, my decision to volunteer with Camps International in Borneo was driven by a combination of altruism, a thirst for adventure, and a deep-seated desire to make a meaningful impact in the world. I saw it as an opportunity not only to give back to the planet but also to grow as an individual and inspire others to do the same. Along with reforestation programs, community toilet block installations, building bridges, and doing beach cleanups, I knew I could make a real difference.
