Help get clean water to Arlene's hometown

Hi my name is Arlene, I am a Zimbabwean living in the UK and I need your help.

Although I've spent the majority of my life in the UK, I was born in Bulawayo and raised in a small town called Karoi in Zimbabwe.

Karoi is a part of the Hurungwe Central constituency which is in Mashonaland West Province. The Hurugwe central constituency has a population of about 100, 000 inhabitants. It primarily comprises of 15 wards, 10 of which are urban and 5 which  are rural. Karoi Urban (see map below), where I had the privilege of growing up and going to school, is a historical farming town. Karoi inhabitants are (and to this day) survive on farming income, which makes the urban town slightly better off than the more rural wards.

The rural wards as shown in the map above are wards 1, 4, 5, 18, and 23. The population relies mainly on agriculture as a source of living, however the rural wards suffer from a lack of infrastructure development. There is lack of basic infrastructure, such as boreholes which could provide the basic necessity of clean drinking water - a commodity we  often take for granted.

The communities have resorted to using any sources of water available to them albeit the health risks.  Scenes like the image below depict how many people access water in these wards and it honestly breaks my heart

My father and current MP of Hurungwe Central Honorable D. Ndiweni is the is doing the best he can, but with the struggling unstable economy in Zimbabwe, it is difficult for him to help everyone on his own.

This is where I'd like to help!

I know I may not have the answers to the problems in Zimbabwe, but a tangible way I can help is by giving back to the community I was raised in.

Together with local tradesman (and the permission of my father to dig in his constituency), my plan is  to commission the digging and installation of 5 boreholes  - 1 borehole for each for the poorest wards in Hurungwe.

In an ideal world,  I would build boreholes for all the 15 wards, but perhaps targeting the most desperate villages will be my starting point.

It costs $2, 000 USD/£1,527.94 (exchange checked 23/08/2020*) to dig and install a borehole, therefore we need $10,000 USD / £ 7,639.71 (exchange checked 23/08/2020*)  to build 5 boreholes for the poorest wards.

The exchange rate can/will fluctuate so my hope is that we can fundraise the difference.

My hope is that we raise the $10, 000  USD/ £7, 639.71  needed over before the year ends so that we can start the digging and installation early 2021.

Your donations are the only way I can raise this amount of money and I truly hope you will help me reach this goal. Clean sanitary running water is a basic human right that all of us should have.

If together we make this project possible, it would not only mean a lot to me, but it would make the world of difference to the poorest people in my beloved Hurungwe.

If you can give, please give.
If you cannot give, please share this page.
Let's get clean water to the people of my hometown constituency!

Thank you in advance,
Arlene
