Help provide our local Perry Police Department with Usborne and Kane Miller children's books to keep in their vehicles. The police often respond to calls involving children, and these books will give the officers a way to offer comfort and kindness during a difficult time. A donation of $100 will purchase a set of a 10 books that the police officers can have in their patrol cars to give to children in this situation. Not only will these books provide emotional support, but they will also help a child develop confidence and leave a more positive impression of police officers.
Our goal is to raise over $2,000 in donations and we need YOUR help. Usborne Books & More has agreed to match our donations by 50%, so with our $2,000 and their match of $1,000, we can purchase a set of books for all 32 patrol vehicles for our police officers to hand out to children in our community! We would greatly appreciate your support!
These book sets may include one of the following (please click to peek inside these books):
*Jonathan James and the Whatif Monster
*Cordelia
*Dog and Mouse
Also did you know:
*85% of children in the juvenile court system cannot read
*60% of adult prison inmates are functionally illiterate
*The US ranks 49th in its rate of literacy among the 156 United Nation member countries
*46% of American adults fall into the lowest two levels of reading, making them functionally illiterate, unable to read and comprehend the front page of a newspaper
*A national poverty indicator is having less than 25 pieces of printed material in the home.
This book drive will end on July 25, 2018.
Thank you for supporting our mission to increase literacy in our community and providing a way for our local law enforcement to form a connection with a child in need.
