Hi everyone!!
My birthday is on September 29th!! I am an organizer for Mutual Aid Brookline (MAB), so I thought this would be the perfect opportunity to raise some money for the work that we have been doing for the past 6 months. MAB was launched on March 15th, two days after Brookline schools first closed at the beginning of the COVID-19 crisis. We are still building, expanding, fundraising, and planning for the future so that we can continue to provide access to essential resources like food, cleaning supplies, medication, childcare, and financial assistance as immediately as possible, now with the addition of language access, library materials, and the community notes digest.
For my birthday, I want to make MAB a more sustainable in the coming months. Our expenses are large. Since launching we have made over 750 grocery deliveries, subsidized $34,620 of those deliveries, provided $15,491 in childcare subsidies between seven Brookline families, distributed over $15,000 in direct financial aid, and responded to over 500 hotline calls. That’s the power of our more than 300 volunteers and the $70,737 we have collectively raised since March 15th!
The goal for my birthday fundraiser is 2 months of MAB expenses which is $16,000 by October 16th. This money will be used to continue subsidizing community deliveries which goes a long way to fight food insecurity in Brookline. Your donations will also go to our childcare subsidies. When we make a promise to help a family pay for childcare, we take a really big risk. Those subsidies allow people to go back to work. If we are unable to continue our support, that person may lose their income and be in a worse position then they were before. The need is real and the stakes are high.
Mutual Aid Brookline's sustainability would be the greatest gift to receive for my birthday. I know I can count on you!! Thank you in advance!
