Hello friends and family,
Many of you probably know that I have been involved in scouting for a long time and that I have been recently working on the rank of Eagle Scout, but many of you may not have known how my scouting career started. I first joined Cub Scouts in 1st grade because I heard they were shooting bottle rockets in the back of the school. I went home that day and told my parents I wanted to join Cub Scouts. Little did any of us realize what we were getting into. Now nearly 11 years later, I am still in scouting all because seven-year-old me wanted to launch some bottle rockets. Through my years in scouting, I have discovered many new things that I like or dislike. For example, I dislike hiking in the rain just to set up a four-person tent and stuff six people in it.
On the contrary, scouting has exposed me to some of my all-time favorite things to do, including mountain biking and hiking. I had these two things in mind when looking for Eagle Scout Projects. I knew I wanted to do something that would benefit both hikers and bikers and after weeks of looking for the perfect project, I found one.
The project I chose is a 75-foot boardwalk in the John and Marie Boloian Reservation. This project opportunity stood out because mountain bikers and hikers heavily use the trail. A section of the trail is muddy all year round and has started to erode because of the heavy use. This issue needed to be addressed quickly, and I was just the right person for the job.
My boardwalk will make it easier for anyone who wants to traverse this trail, whether on foot, bike, or even wheelchair. Yes, my boardwalk will be in ADA compliance, so literally, anyone can use it. To make it accessible to all, it will be 48 inches wide to accommodate all sizes of travelers, and there will be a ramp on the end for an easy dismount.
The total cost for this project is $2,000, and I would appreciate any and all help.
Thanks from your friend in scouts
Brady Dunn
