Bolivian Amazon Fires, HELP THEM CEASE

Donation protected
Hi, I am Jazmin Pozo, from La Paz - Bolivia. I’m an Australian permanent resident living in Perth for the last 7 years.

I reach out to you today because of calamity that is happening right now in my homeland Bolivia. The dry tropical forest called “Chiquitanía”, parts of the Bolivian Amazon and the Bolivian Pantanal are under uncontrolled ravaging fire.

The Bolivian government has enabled aggressive land grabs that have led to deforestation as President Jair Bolsonaro has done in Brazil.

The main reason is that President Evo Morales signed an agreement to increase beef exports to China, which have been growing in value and volume. Then in July, a decree legalized slash-and-burn fires to turn the world treasure that is our forest into a pasture and coca fields...and here we are, with approximately 5 million acres burned and more fires ongoing.

If our forest keeps burning, it will turn into a completely different ecosystem, with fewer trees, fewer plants and animals, some species might disappear from the area entirely.
A large number of trees have died, calcined animals have been found and the ones who managed to survive have lost their habitat.

The Amazon fires
won’t deplete the Earth’s supply of oxygen, but they will release large amounts of carbon dioxide (CO₂) into the atmosphere which is bad news, as it contributes to a large degree, to global warming and climate change.

Today I seek for your help. I have managed to reach direct contact with a group of volunteers in Bolivia called "La manada de los lobos" (The wolf pack) they work for "SAR TARIJA, BOMBEROS UNIDOS POR LA CHIQUITANIA" (SAR TARIJA, united for the Chiquitanía) a firefighter crew in Bolivia who are risking their lives every day to put an end to the fires. SAR TARIJA is one of the few crews that standstill, they have Firefighters from all over Bolivia and a couple from Spain.

I have created a public space on Facebook called “Red, Yellow & Green” where you can read about their work, what are their needs, the rescues that they have done. Also, you can see the results of the donations that people are making to help them keep with the fight. You will be able to be in contact with them too.  In that space, you will find more links regarding the same issue to keep you updated with the information.

I have created this Gofundme link so you can help today by donating and being part of the solution, you can contribute directly to the point of need. The volunteer team "La manada de los lobos" will be the beneficiaries of this campaign as they organize the logistics for SAR TARIJA, providing them with all their requirements. The results of the donations will be shown in the “Red, Yellow & Green” page and whatever questions you have please don't hesitate to let me know.

How will the donations help the cause? With the donations, the volunteers in Bolivia that organize the logistics and manage the donations will be able to purchase:

- Firefighter equipment (clothing, boots, helmets, gloves, masks, etc)
- Transportation funds to move firefighters from one place to another.
- Oxygen tanks.

- Nebulizers.
- Food supplies.

They have been exposed to the fire for 42 days already (today’s date 25/09/2019), the equipment gets damage pretty quick, they need to move constantly, and they are running out of all their supplies. A number of firefighters have died, some have left because of the lack of support and fear for their lives.

Thank you for your time in reading this and please help me take action. If you have already made a donation or you can’t because your financial situation won’t allow you to do so, then please share the page to people you know can help. The firefighters are alone, the government is doing very little to help, the military and police are hindering their efforts, leaving them alone in the fields and donations that have been given to the government for the firefighters, have never arrived at their hands. They can’t continue alone, they need us, please be part of the solution today.

Thank you once again,

Jazmin Pozo

Gofundme doesn't work in Bolivia, so the money raised in the campaign will be withdrawn to a bank account in Australia under my name so I can personally send the money to Bolivia.

WATCH THE VIDEO BELOW, WORDS BY THE FIREFIGHTER JOSE MARIA ZAPATA, THE LEADER OF SAR TARIJA.

The video below is the preview of a documentary that will be finished in October, showing SAR TARIJA'S experience during this past months, the lack of government help, so people all over the world can see the truth of what's happening in Bolivia. In the video they mention the night where, the military and firefighters' camp base caught on fire: the military grabbed their belongings and drove away, leaving the team alone.
