Bobby Wilson used his retirement money to buy a five-acre farm in the middle of an urban food desert, just minutes from downtown Atlanta, Georgia. His mission: to reduce barriers to healthy living in urban communities by showing people how they can eat healthier and save money through gardening and farming. Since 2009, his Metro Atlanta Urban Farm has taught thousands of people how to plant, prepare and use fresh produce while also supporting underresourced Black farmers. He grows nearly three tons of food each year to distribute for free to those in need.
