My son, Dave Foster, essentially a single dad of three boys ages 14,10 and 7, is facing possible eviction this summer. He is $16K in debt to his landlord. If he isn't below $10K in arrears by June 1, they will not renew his lease for July. The kids all go to school in the neighborhood currently, with the 14 year old starting high school and 10 year old starting middle school in the fall. They have lived in their building for 11 years and in their current small 2BR for the past 5, having downgraded to a smaller unit. Only in the past 2 years has it become a struggle financially with Dave being the sole provider, working a full-time graphics job as well as freelance work at night. In the last year or so Dave’s graphics freelance work has slowed and expenses have increased (babysitting, after school, medical, etc) alongside mounting debts making it hard to keep up with the monthly rent. The building management have been tolerant for the past 2 years but their business partners are pressuring them to kick Dave and the boys out if a substantial amount of back rent isn’t paid and a payment arrangement for the balance made. They have no immediate family to help out and are counting on the generosity of their extended family and friends (and empathetic strangers.
Fortunately, Dave’s job affords him the opportunity to work from home in case of an emergency illness of one of his boys. He is a devoted and attentive Dad who is being stretched to unreasonable limits. Please try to help this family stay in their apartment and not make the three terrific boys from being uprooted from school chums and a known environment.
