Hi all, my name is Jack Ako. At one point in my life, I weighed over 600lbs. I’d spent years making poor lifestyle choices — neglecting my health, ignoring my limits, and letting my self-worth take a back seat. I didn’t realise just how much that was affecting my mind as well as my body.
It wasn’t just about the weight. It was about how I felt — low energy, no drive, no confidence. I thought I was just tired or unmotivated, but looking back, I can see how closely my physical health and mental wellbeing were connected.
Eventually, I made a decision: something had to change. Over time, and with a lot of hard work and support, I’ve managed to lose over 400lbs. Through this, I realised how much exercise, routine, and healthy choices can change your mindset — not just about your body, but your head too.
That’s why I’m walking 25km — not just for myself, but for every man who feels like he has to suffer in silence.
I'm doing this in support of Andy’s Man Club, a charity that provides a safe space for men to talk, listen, and support each other through the storms of mental health struggles. Whether you’ve personally faced these challenges or know someone who has — and let's face it, we all do — this walk is for us all.
I’m proud to be from the Five Towns. And I believe our community can show the power of what happens when we walk together — in miles and in mindset.
So here’s what I’m asking:
Walk with me.
Donate if you can.
And most importantly, check in with your mates.
Because sometimes, the first step out of darkness starts with simply saying: "It’s okay to talk."
Let’s walk for those who can't. Let’s support those who need it. Let’s show up — together.
