my brother James is currently incarcerated. He was sentenced April 7th of this year to 12 months. This past Saturday James had a medical emergency with his heart and was rushed to hospital. It turned out James had an infected abscess in his heart valve (bacterial endocarditis) and an infection through his body. On Monday April 28th James had to undergo emergency valves replacement (open heart surgery) to replace the destroyed valve in his heart. The infection has caused issues with his liver and kidneys as well as left him with an increased risk of stroke or heart attack as he recovers. There is a high risk of the infection coming back and without constant and consistent medical care which can not be offered in the prison he may end up back in the same condition or worse (as per his doctor). We are trying to work with a lawyer to help get James compassionate release or house arrest for the remainder of his sentence to allow him to properly heal and recover without the stress and risks that would be associated with going back to jail. We as a family are looking for help with the legal fees required to get James the help he needs to get home safe and healthy to his family.
