Blood For Missions
is a nonprofit blood bank ministry licensed with the state of California. For each unit of blood donated, Blood for Missions donates up to $75 to Christian and humanitarian nonprofits, with the blood benefiting hospital patients in need.
Pre-blood bank, Blood for Missions organized ‘Blood Drives for Missions’ for two contracted Southern California blood banks. In that time, our blood drives generated 20,586 units of donated blood to these contracted blood banks, benefiting up to 41,172 hospital patients and generating $411,710 for Christian and humanitarian nonprofit organizations.
In California, donated blood is sold by blood banks to hospitals for $250-$300 per blood donor (see page 65-71 in this report from U.S. Department of Health & Human Services National Blood utilization Report: http://www.hhs.gov/ash/bloodsafety/2011-nbcus.pdf
This means that our 20,586 units of donated blood created $5-$6 million dollars of revenue for our partner blood banks (at $250-$300 per blood donor), and the $411,710 Blood for Missions raised for nonprofits was less than 10 cents on the dollar for ministries.
Blood for Missions has spent the past 1.5 years putting together:
1. an experienced team http://bloodformissions.org/meet-our-team/ including 12 RNs and phlebotomists
2. the right equipment and processes (see above photo!)
3. everything for our state Biologics license; Friday April 24th we became only the 8th independent blood bank in the state of California, and the 1st to open in the past 15 years!
The only thing left is YOUR HELP. With everything in place, we need your financial support to help us get off the ground and sustained in our first 6 months. As Blood for Missions is a 501 c 3 nonprofit, all donations are also tax deductable! EIN 26-4710983
