Blessing my Parents : A home of comfort and care

Donation protected
Hello, my name is Maralen, and I have created this GoFundMe in the hopes of surprising my parents with the support and love of our community. They have no idea I am doing this, but my heart longs to give back to them in the way they have selflessly given to me and my children.

Over two years ago, my children and I moved in with my parents after escaping a 12-year domestic violence situation. Without hesitation, they welcomed us into their home, offering us not only a safe place to heal but unconditional love and support. Despite their own struggles, they have been our rock. Now that we are finally getting in a place of stability and preparing soon to step into a new chapter, I want nothing more than to bless them in return.

I hadn’t lived with my parents since I was a teenager, and once I moved back in, I saw firsthand the financial burdens and health challenges they had been quietly enduring. My father, who worked for General Motors for over 25 years, lost his job when the Oklahoma plant shut down, and since then, he has faced years of financial hardship and health struggles. He worked as a ticket taker for the Oklahoma City Thunder for as long as he physically could, but as his pain worsened, standing for long hours became impossible.

The weight of financial stress has been hard on him mentally, and some days, his pain and depression keep him in bed for days at a time. And yet, through everything, my dad continues to be the light in any room, making everyone laugh until their stomachs hurt. He is the best grandpa, adored beyond words, and the bond he shares with my children is a beautiful reflection of generational healing.

At 77 years old, my dad has undergone multiple back surgeries, along with several shoulder and knee surgeries. His osteoarthritis has worsened, leading to nerve weakness, balance issues, and frequent falls. A knee replacement is inevitable, and at his age, recovery will require time, assistance, and support.
On top of the financial burdens and health struggles, my parents also faced the heartbreak of burying their beloved pet. Losing them was devastating, as they had been a source of love and comfort through life’s hardest moments. The emotional toll, along with the unexpected expenses, has only made things more difficult.
My parents’ home is filled with love, but over the years, many things have worn down and need to be replaced to improve their comfort and well-being:

Their bed is 34 years old (from 1991), causing increased pain and lack of support.
Their dining table and chairs are falling apart, with several chairs held together with duct tape.
My dad hasn’t had a recliner in over 15 years—he sits in a kitchen chair in the living room.
My mom’s rocking chair, which belonged to her mother, broke this past week. It was so special to her and I would like to find someone to refurbish it.
Their couch is 32 years old and in desperate need of replacement.
The carpet is over 25 years old, stained, and in need of removal.
Their shower needs to be replaced—the tile has built-up mold and residue, and they need something safer and more accommodating for their disabilities.
My mother is almost 71 years old and still works as a beautician, making less than $600 a month, with $400 going toward booth rent. She loves her clients and finds joy in making others feel beautiful, but the financial strain is real.

As my children and I prepare to move into our own home this year, we are beyond grateful for the safety, healing, and love my parents have provided us. They gave us everything when we had nothing, and now I want to give back to them. My dream is to help them replace these things and make their home as comfortable and safe as possible.

If you are able to donate—no matter the amount—it would mean the world to us. Every little bit helps in making this dream come true.

From the bottom of my heart, thank you for reading, for listening, and for any support you can give.
