Blankets for Homeless in Longmont
Donation protected
UPDATE: We need help making the blankets this Saturday, May 20th. If you live in/near Longmont, please consider donating time to assemble blankets. 9am-12pm. (Please RSVP by contacting Jill. On the main page, click the envelope next to her name.)
My name is Matthew Giles and I'm 17 years old. When I first thought about doing an Eagle Scout project, I knew I wanted to help the homeless because I didn't have a home until I was 13 years old. We don't always get to choose our circumstances. These people didn't choose to be homeless, and I want to do what I can to help them.
For my Eagle Scout service project I am partnering with H.O.P.E. to do a blanket drive. The blankets that we make will be given to H.O.P.E who will give them to the homeless here in Longmont.
H.O.P.E provided help for 1,500 homeless men, women and children in Longmont in 2016. Many of these individuals sleep outside. It is cold enough that you would need a blanket almost EVERY NIGHT of the year in Longmont. Please consider donating money to purchase fabric to make blankets. $1200 will buy 400 yds of fabric, allowing us to make 100 blankets. By making the blankets ourselves, we will get the most possible benefit from every dollar that is donated. We need these funds as soon as possible, deadline of May 18th!
If you live in or near Longmont, we are also looking for donations of BLANKETS, FABRIC (fleece), or TIME to help our friends in need. (Please contact Jill Giles for details on how to donate these items.)
Thank you for all your help and your time. God bless you!
UPDATE: Anything over our $1200 goal will be given to H.O.P.E. for other needs. We are working with H.O.P.E. to determine the best use of any extra donations.
