The #BlackPantherChallenge is an initiative launched by Frederick Joseph (US) to raise money to take Harlem children to see Black Panther in the cinema. Guess what? We are bringing this challenge to West Londons inner city kids!!!
WE NEED TO RAISE £1300 TO COVER ALL SNACKS AND TICKETS FOR 100 CHILDREN!! THIS WILL COVER £10 TICKET PER CHILD AND £3 SNACK MEAL (DRINK POPCORN AND PICKNMIX)
Growing up myself on the streets of Ladbroke Grove was rough in the 80's/90's, with little to no opportunity especially if you didnt have the money for it. Even being at home watching movies and TV shows, black faces where limited for me to inspire towards, other than shows like Desmonds taking main stage and comedies like The Real Mcoy, this was all I had as a reflection of myself.
With a film like Black Panther this changes the game totally, with a leading black cast, who are not dipicting "slaves" or "roadman", we have an oppotunity to see strong, powerful ,black male and most importantly for me female roles.
As we are both major fans of comic books and films and have enjoyed looking up to the many heroes on our screen, and know the effect that these heroes can have on children and adults. "Black Panther" can also have a major effect on society and the society we live in today with the youth having no heroes of colour to look up too. This opportunty for children to see people of colour as heroes and leading roles in a major Marvel film can change persepectives for ever. This is a powerful impact we want to embrace and help create.
Sharmadean Reid & Sharea Samuels are coming together to make this happen in order for the young people of North Kensington & surrounding areas in lower income households to receive this amazing opporutniy, and we are asking all of you to come together and pitch in to take these children to see an epic film that reflects themselves.
We will reach out to schools and youth centres in the area to suggest students and young people who culd really benefit from such an experience.
We would like to take 100 children to ELECTRIC CINEMA on PORTOBELLO ROAD, to watch BLACK PANTHER 1 on 16th FEBUARY 2018 @ 11am this beauitul location will be an experience and not just a regular trip to the cinema, with sofas beds and super comfy and extra large seats this would be the perfect place for children to snuggle up and enjoy a movie and a delicious snack and drink.
Any money left over Sharmadean Reid and myself would like to set up #BlackPantherChallenge in Jamaica where we raise double the amount for children from low income families using the support of local schools.
