Black And Brown - Women and Children's March - NYC
Donation protected
Hello, my name is Mercy Baez, and I am an activist, performer, and speaker in New York City. We are raising funds for supplies needed to conduct our Women’s and Children’s march in Harlem and The Bronx!
Black and Brown women and children have been highly affected by systematic oppression for centuries. Our women and children have not only faced the brutality of the police, but the brutality of misogynoir. As our black and brown men have been targeted by police brutality, our women are targeted for their wombs, and our children are continuously denied educational opportunities that are crucial for their development.
In the United States, black women are up to 6 times more likely to die from complications of pregnancy than white women. Black and brown women have been denied essential health services for the way they look, and they have had their emergency medical conditions dismissed as psychosomaticism.
Our education system needs to be advanced with proper African American history being taught in schools. This is a mandatory curriculum, or else the true history of the Black people will be erased. We also need more extracurricular programs to support our youth's social and cognitive development. We must fight to make school lunches free and to permanently eliminate "school lunch debt", as this hurts our improverished and underserved communities.
The purpose of this march is to educate, uplift, and empower our communities of Black and Brown people, focussing on what it means to be a Black woman in America today.
We are asking for your help to cover food, snacks, waters, safety equipment, face masks, hand sanitizers, and sound equipment for the Black and Brown Women and Children's March. Other supplies will include materials for the children's activities, such as chalk and bubbles.
The remaining funds after the march will be used to establish community refrigerators in Harlem and The Bronx. We will also be doing a food pantry on August 14th in those areas, which are very costly.
This movement is not possible without your support, and we are truly grateful for your help.
