Hello! My name is Faith Hawkins, and I’m a proud Health Science graduate of Hampton University with a heart for service, a calling in healthcare, and a deep desire to be a light in the lives of others.

This summer, I’ve been blessed with an incredible opportunity to study abroad in Greece, where I’ll explore the foundations of medicine, international healthcare systems, and how culture shapes the way care is given and received. This experience is more than just a trip—it’s a sacred step on my journey to becoming a compassionate, culturally aware Physician Assistant (PA) who serves with purpose and love.

From a young age, I’ve believed in the power of healing, faith, and human connection. I’ve spent over five years working in emergency rooms, clinics, hospice homes, and community shelters—caring for people during some of the most vulnerable moments of their lives. Every patient I’ve touched, every family I’ve comforted, and every challenge I’ve faced has strengthened my passion for this calling.

I’m also proud to be a charter member of Eta Sigma Gamma, the National Health Education Honor Society, which reflects my commitment to academic excellence, service, and advancing public health.

But this journey is also about representation. Black women make up less than 3% of all Physician Assistants in the United States. That number doesn’t just reflect a statistic—it reflects a gap in trust, understanding, and culturally competent care for so many underserved communities. I want to be part of changing that. I want young Black girls to see someone who looks like them in a white coat and know that they can belong in these spaces too. Black providers matter. Our presence, our voices, and our care can be life-changing.

Studying in Greece will allow me to grow in ways I could never experience in a classroom. I’ll walk the path of ancient healers, learn how other cultures approach medicine, and gain new tools to better serve the diverse communities I’m committed to uplifting. Spiritually, professionally, and personally—this program is life-changing.
